After 7 years my B is done and I would like to buy a Carter as I'm not interested in rebuilding this one. I want a proper rebuilt one addressing not just the soft rebuild kit materials but also "hard" parts like throttle plate etc that have been likely beat in the last 60 some years. Any suggestions on who to give my money to? Not sure model number to chase or where look for a supplier why I ask. Won't have a core so will need buy outright. 1959 235 in my apache. Thanks in advance for any insight offered.

The 3211s is a very nice carb for the 1959 model. It sort of depends on what air cleaner you have, however.

Back in the day, Carter, Stromberg, and Zenith all produced replacement carbs for the Chevrolet.

Additionally, many other carbs have been adapted, with varying degrees of success.

And today, there are some offshore clones available. And while I have not personally inspected the offshore clones for the Chevrolet, I have had a number of customers try the offshore clones for the Willys Jeep and the Ford 8N tractor, often sending them to me for rebuilding after about 25 hours of use. They were not rebuildable. These two "carbs" are extremely useful if one has a strong right arm (or left arm, no discrimination here) AND a rabbit problem in one's garden!

All products have advantages and disadvantages. The clones we inspected had two "advantages": (1) initial cost was ridiculously low, and (2) they were new and shiny. We do suggest if buying them to use, buy them by the dozen!

Jon, many thanks for weighing in on the clones. I have seen them on ebay and often wondered whether they were a viable replacement. My arm is not that strong so I think I will pass, lol.

Mike - the downdraft fake Carter W-0 carbs for the Willys Jeep are of such poor quality, that, if one removes the fake from the engine after 500 miles (assuming it lasts 500 miles ) and tries to set the fake on one's workbench, it will roll off. The zinc alloy (pot metal) is so poor that the flange will have warped maybe 50 thousandths. It is no longer flat. And people gripe about idle quality if the throttle shaft wears 3 thousandths.

But depending on the greed of the seller, it only costs from $89.95 to $139.95.

Putting a new carb kit in after 7 years doesn't seem too bad to me. How many times can a carb be rebuilt before it's toast?

I bought 2 yf carters for a willys jeep. They ran good but the throttle worked backwards than the rochester. My linkage pushed up and these pull down. these were for a hurricane engine.
