The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop leaking carb

I've got a newly rebuilt rochester 1 barrel that has about 500 miles on it. It looks like it is leaking from around the shaft of the butterfly valve, but I am not 100% sure. Anybody had this problem and know how to fix it? Where else might it be leaking from? All of the external srews are snug. Thank you in advance for any help.

A well-rebuilt Rochester will often have bushings around the shaft for the throttle butterfly valve (a common point for wear and leaks).

The gasket between the top and the main body also seems to be an opportunity for a "leak". The gasket acts as a wick. However, I am not sure if this problem is a result of a poorly adjusted float. I recall reading that it is not uncommon for the top to warp a little and thus allow a little seepage at the gasket.

Had the same problem on mine. It had an electric fuel pump installed at the time. Took that out and put in a new mechanical unit. Still leaked at the carb. Read somewhere about installing an inline pressure regulator on the fuel line to the carb. Got a pretty chrome one at the local auto parts store with a dial-in gauge on top. Put it inline with the carb and set it for 2.5 psi. Works like a champ and looks pretty too. Think is was made by Puralator.

Thank-you men for your help. I've got about a week left on my carb warrenty and I actually found the receipt, so I am gonna have it replaced for free, I hope. If I have any more problems I will probably go with the pressure regulator as suggested. Thanks.
