I am trying to come up with clutch kit, appears to be 10-3/4" and has a 9 bolt pressure plate (set up is from the 1947 235), There are tons of 6 bolt options but nothing in 9 bolt options, no one seems to be able to come up with the loadmaster model. I can get rebuilt if I ship it out but would like to get complete kit if anyone knows of a source for a kit. I have looked at putting different flywheel and would have to convert to 12 volt, father in law wants it left 6 volt. Thanks for any help. I will see what I can find in my catalogs. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 18 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 18 | Hy Still Learnin, I believe there are some flywheels which are for six volt applications which are drilled for six bolt pressure plates. I wanted to stay with the Borg & Beck style, found the correct diameter (11") and 10 spline the same as a Belaire, everything went together without a problem. the only difference was one less spring on the friction plate but I don't know for sure if the clutch I took out was the original to the truck.

Ed Can you give a little more info on drilling the flywheel? Do some of the 6 bolt pressure plate holes line up to center everything and then you just drill and tap rest of holes? Thanks

If you send in your core pieces you will get the core cost back. It appears that the pressure plates were held on with nine bolts until 1953, so that leaves 54 and 55A series with six volt flywheels and six bolt pressure plates, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 18 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 18 | Hy Still Learnin, I found a pressure plate and disc at Chevs of the 40s, pressure plate their p/n 838949 my catalog is from 2007 so prices will be higher, but in 2007 it was $80.00 plus $50.00 core, clutch disc p/n 3835483 $68.00 plus $40.00 core. Thanks 3B, The prices are way higher now, may have a line on 54-55 6 bolt 139 tooth 11", a bit spendy but appears if I pick up this fly wheel I can go all new stuff for same price or a little less than getting rebuild. Still curious about drilling the flywheel, as long as I have to drill and tap for water pump adapter plate might as well drill and tap a few more holes. :)) | | | | | Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 18 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 18 | Found a 54-55 6 bolt 139 tooth 11" flywheel, before I pull the trigger and buy, anyone know if it will fit a 58 235? I will use the bell housing off of the 47 235...keeping it 6 volt. Thanks again for any help | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy Still Learnin, as far as I know the flywheel will fit all the way up to 1962 the last year of that engine designs production, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 18 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 18 | Thanks 3B... The only other thing I got to wondering now is would the 1954 11" 6 bolt flywheel fit in side the bell housing of the 1947 that has the 10 3/4" bolt with no issues. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy Still Learnin, yes the flywheel should fit fine, it is the clutch that is a little larger not the flywheel, if I remember correctly some of the larger trucks used an 11" clutch and pressure plate. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 18 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 18 | Thanks again 3B... I was just concerned that the pressure plate assy would be bigger being a 11" versus 10 3/4" causing clearance issues in bell housing, but it shouldn't be much of a difference if any. Is the bolting circumference further out on the flywheel on a 11" versus lets say a 9" or 10" clutch? I got a flywheel off Ebay and two 11" kits off Rockauto. You can buy 11" kits all day long for our trucks vs the 10.75 P-plate and disk which the price's are ridiculous in addition to a core charge. just an example: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=334289&cc=1486453&jsn=388 | | | | | Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 18 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 18 | Hi Still Learnin, hey how did your clutch swap go? Thanks to all for there input! | | |
