My truck('54 GMC fire truck) has Type FR-3 rear brakes. They may be identified by 2 wheel cylinders, served by 2 brake lines from a 'Y' at the first cylinder, adjustment by 3/8" Allen wrench, two locations.
Upon disassembly, the wheel cylinders are identified by casting number: FD 9572; 1.875" ID. These data are from disassembly, they do not appear anyplace else, certainly not by looking under '54 GMC, forget about going that way.
My wheel cylinders were labeled 1 7/8, which is 1.875". I found on:
Powerbrake-drivetrain.com, new cups which I received today, verified, 1 7/8" , so I am all set. Of course I need to hone the cylinders, etc.
They have other associated items, too. Ah, for air brakes!!
Good luck,
Ed

Once again , thanks for the info Ed. I'm going to be tearing into my brakes in the next week or two. Very timely info for me.
You've been a big help.

They are obsolete, so be gentle with yours. Do not tighten the Allen wrench to tighten the brakes too much, the innards are fragile.

That's good to know and I thank you once again, Ed.
I need to get my seat recovered, I understand that the cabs on the 630 series are the same as the pickup so I'm guessing that the seats would be the same also? Going to need an oil pan gasket also. Is there anything available that will work?

I would just like to clean it out. I imagine it's never been off and there's probably a lot of sludge build up from over the years that I'd just as soon not be contaminating fresh oil. Probably just make a gasket, like you suggested. | | | | Joined: Dec 2016 Posts: 31 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2016 Posts: 31 | Ed
