Hi All,

I have a 1/2 1950 chevy truck. I purchase fender welting from one of the vendors, cannot remember which one. I realize I have to cut out pie shaped notches to get it to contour the fender shape. I am trying to install the from fenders but welting material does not seem wide enough. I is not wide enough to use the mounting holes on the fender or on the cab sheetmetal. I this correct? I always thought the mounting screws would pass through the welting material to help keep it in place. May be I am not understanding how to install it. I have done a search but did not see anything on the front fender installation.

How wide is the welting (outward from the "cord")?

Can you attach a picture (with a ruler next to it)?

What vender and part number?
If it is listed/shown on-line, post a link to it.

The replacement welting is not as wide as original

I notch them with pie cuts and cut off the ends of the pie pieces which interfered with the bolt holes. I then use all seven of my hands to hold the welting in place while tightening the fender bolts. (I use my other two extra long arms which have the extra reverse bend elbows for tightening those bolts.) Can you smell "Tech Tip" nominee?

I measured my welting, the edge is 1.25" from the tubing edge. I believe I purchased it from Classic Truck. Dads50, I see from you picture that the front welting, the fender mounting holes do not go through the welting. Did you use adhesive to keep it from sliding around?

I used a little bit of weatherstrip adhesive to affix the welting correctly on the flange of the fender. Pie cut the welting to curve, and to miss bolt holes. Once adhesive is dry, easy install.

I just used the tape seen in the pic, once the bolts we in I fished it out.

small amount of adhesive sounds like a good Idea

I just wanted it kinda loose so I could readjust as needed

Jim Carter sells the same ITEM for half the price. I used these on my truck and they worked great. This is for the inner fender.

Both of those seem to be missing the distinctive bead

But its had to tell from the pic

I didn't worry about the fender bolts going through the welting when I installed it on my fenders. I just relied on the pinch pressure of the fenders to hold the welting in place. I have not had any issues. It has been in place for about 2 years.
