old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 1,181 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 1,181 | I would like to try to paint the front bumper and "barbell" for my GMC sometime in the next week or so. I have the gun, compressor, paint, hardner, reducer, mixing cups and have a basic idea of what I'm doing, but never having done this before, I'm unsure.
I thought a found a site linked thru the "bolt" that I can read up on the painting do's and don'ts. Any Idea what the link is?

Use thin layers of paint, rather than all at once. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 442 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 442 | I just painted one of my doors interior panel, the Champagne Grey. I used the PPG Omni brand, and got a tech sheet from the paint supplier, which had the info on drying times between coats etc. I was very helpfull.
I found it best, and have been told it is better to spray 2 or 3 light coats, allowing to dry between coats, rather than trying to coat it with one heavy coat of paint. That worked out best for me, and the door panel looks great!!
Take your time, do it when you dont feel like your rushed to get it done.

I'm going to have the truck painted by a shop, but I would like to get the barbell and bumper(s) so she won't have primer parts. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 443 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 443 | The most important thing, especially if you are using urethane paint with hardner is have the proper filters in your resporator. Remember your lungs don't have a drain valve, what goes in there stays in there. If paint hardens in your lungs it can kill you. 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | |
