I got my inner cowl panels and floorpans for Dad's 51 Chevy 3100. Do I just cut out the floorpans and I'll be able to pull the inner cowls? Or am I looking at pulling the fenders to get at the outer to inners and drill out dozens of spot welds, or what? Does anyone have a play by play? Here?Type "patch panels" in the search box and you'll get 150+ threads on the subject. Did you buy the floor supports that are welded to the bottom of the floor pans? If your inners are rotten then you probably need the inner to outers as well. As far as play by play it's be tackled several different ways as I did my floors last. Study the efforts of those who have already been there before cutting. Look in my old album under cab repair for some pic's and here's another link with lots of pictures. http://www.ironchief.com/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=customer-projects Good luck. Curt B.

Yes, I did buy the inner to outers as well as the supports. I'm trying to do everything the right way, but my dad is coming to visit in the next few weeks (which is when I'm giving the truck to him...) and I'm trying to find some shortcuts, but without cutting corners. The inner cowl panel is also spot-welded to the interior kick panels. And the firewall. And to the floor.
If you can replace the inner cowl panels without removing the fenders you'll go down in history as one hell of a body man.
You need to pull the inner and outer fenders. Then use a chisel and hammer to break the spot welds (or a cutoff wheel if you're careful.) I suspect you're doing this because of rust, so you can at least get it started by cutting out the rusted parts which will give you something to grab onto with a vice grips while you chisel the welds loose.
Good luck. You've got a lot of work ahead of you. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 | If you still have structural integrity in that area then just hide the ugly inners for now. Cut runner type carpet pc's or you can buy cardboard panels from vendors and glue them on. Enjoy it for a bit and deal with that later when you have more time. If you rush it and the door won't close or the cab mount hole doesn't line up nobody will drive it anyway.
