I have a 3 speed on the column and the linkage is not working. When I put the linkage in the transmission it will not reach the column attachment. The transmission is out of a 68 c10. Is there a difference in the linkage? The original had a 4 bolt side cover. The linkage will be different, you may have to bend some of your own or find something in the salvage yards, look at the 68 truck the trans came from.

The length of the linkage is longer on the later transmission. Measure what you have, then measure linkage on the truck transmission came from. Sometimes you have to get creative when you start mixing parts and pieces.

This is probably a simple modification. In these situations it would be nice to have both linkage sets. You would see what each "end" looks like and the installed tranny and column right there for the lengths. You could even weld the "ends" together and make the modified linkage or use the two sets as templates for new rod stock. Bend, thread and drill the rod stock to fit.
TomTom's idea would be easier.
The real solution is to buy and install a SM420 or SM435 4 speed truck trans. No linkage at all.
Column shifts, that need modified for a different trans, can be difficult if you are not a experienced fabricator. Maybe yours is not a difficult fabrication. Don't know. The throws, direction of lever rotation and clocking can be very different. There are limits of movement on the column side. I'm sure someone here has done it.

I dont want a floor shifter because of how short most of them are and I just welded up a buchered hole in the floor from someone doing this before.
