This truck has a generator I want to replace with an alternator. I've been googling and just want to double check my conclusions. Can I take the alternator and brackets from a later (1973?) Chevy C10 and put them directly in my 1962 Chevy without any modifications? Also, if I eventually want to add A/C or a radio 100 amps is more than plenty? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,440 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,440 |

Anything more is foolish unless you plan to run heavy current draw accessories like a gazillion-watt sound system or huge off-road floodlights, etc. Jerry

I drove 600 miles today, AC on, headlights, electric fuel pump, stereo blasting over the wind noise, cruise control, lockup converter, etc. The ammeter never indicated discharge. Agreed, 100 amp alternator would be overkill and maybe dangerous. | | |
