For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2018 Posts: 3 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jul 2018 Posts: 3 | Hello, Just recently aquire a 1955 chevy 6100. It runs, but will need the brakes to be looked at before hitting the road.
I'm in need of part numbers or sources for rear brake shoes or linings, and hardware kits and wheel cylinders.
The other parts or part numbers I need are for the rear axle saddles. I've got one that's broken and I'd like to replace both just to be sure.
Any help would be great. I've been all over the internet looking but never seem to come across the parts I need. I didn't think it would be so hard to find this stuff for this Chevy.
Thank you for your help. Jeremy | | | | | Joined: Dec 2015 Posts: 2,063 Big Bolt Forum Moderator | | Big Bolt Forum Moderator Joined: Dec 2015 Posts: 2,063 | Hi Jeremy, welcome to the site! Do you have a 55.1 or 55.2 truck? they made a change mid-year so, we'll need to know which truck you have. 55.2 is the task force era, same cab shape 55.2-59. 55.1 is earlier body style.
I have had good luck getting part #s for my cylinder kits from Napa online.
Brake shoes, you may need to have them relined.
saddle for the rear axle, assuming the spring perch? I am not sure if those are available, you may need to weld it up. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2018 Posts: 3 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jul 2018 Posts: 3 | Hello ,
Thanks for the quick reply!
THe truck is a task force era.
I called Napa today and they indeed have them in stock, so those are easy.
The ubolts im getting from a place in Illinois,
And by axle saddle, i mean the part on the under side of the axle that the ubolts pinch to keep the axle tight to the spring packs.
I feel i may need to fab these up myself.
Again, Thank you for the help- Jeremy | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | The axle saddles you’ll find used. | | |
