Wasn't finding anything in the search but think i already know the answer...

I have a 1954 3600 that I'm looking to replace the hood on
Naturally its much easier to find 47-53 hoods so other than holes for the trim/badges are there any differences between the year blocks?

I know the Big bolts have bigger front end sheetmetal and that the front fenders/grilles etc are different between the years on the smaller trucks but are the hoods?
Main areas of concern are fitment and if the hood latch mechanisms are the same or similar enough to make work?

Looking at the sheet metal parts available online would seem to indicate that the 54 hood is different. I suggest you consider placing a request in the parts wanted forum. You could also call RPM Motorsports or Mongo's Garage to see if they have an used 1954 hood from a 3100 or 3600. Denny Graham has pics of the differences between a 1950 and a 1954 Hood in his "Album" . He is a great resource on these AD Trucks, you could send him a private message and he may be able to positively answer your question.

The 54/55st hoods also had different holes for the front emblem, but I think people have reported that the fron emblems can be attached with eithrt type of holes.

Maybe someone will post a link to Denny's photos?

As I think Chooglin noted in an earlier post, A-D hood had two side "badges/emblems" on each side from 50-52.

I have a 1954 hood on a 1949 truck. It fits like a glove. There is no reason why one cannot put a '47-'53 hood on a '54 truck. The front emblem holes are in the same place on the early models as the '54. The only difference is that the '47-'53 holes are slightly recessed, which makes no difference in mounting the '54 emblem on an earlier hood.
Late '49-to-mid '52, there were extra holes in the hood for the model designation (3100, etc.) on the sides of the hood. You will need to weld those holes up
Your 1954 side emblems should fit in the "CHEVROLET" side emblem holes of the '47-'52 hood. ('53 hoods had the same emblems as the '54.)

I guess I just made an assumption since the aftermarket hoods available are all listed as 47-53 and also made some assumptions from Denny's Album. http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/1954_body

You know when I thought about this it did seem a little odd that Chevrolet would re-tool or make new stamping dies for the hood of a truck series they had planned as the last year, 1954, even though they did make changes in the fenders. Thanks for the info, it'll be good to know for a lot of folks.
