I finished the passenger door, it looks down right pretty, kind of a bi@$h for one person to handle when both sides of the twelve foot run have contact cement on them, but I got by. And there really wasn't toooo much of the 8008 adhesive to clean up. Although when I used the 3M 8984 "General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner" I found that it will take the fresh paint off, and it will also take off the smooth outer rubber from the WS leaving the foam exposed and looking cracked, and that's not to cool! I'm gonna do the drivers door this week and I'll be doing the same exercise all over again next year after the body work has been done, and also, a friend has asked me to help him reseal his also. So my question for the, "experts" out thar is, do you have any "expert" advise as to how one can apply the adhesive with out getting it all over the place and for laying the rubber in one handed?? Tape you say?? Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

Use one of those disposable small parts brushes(you know the kind, small tubing w/horsehair in one end, used to be popular for flux). I do about a foot at a time & use spring-type clothespins. When it is all glued down & "stuck", I remove the clothespins & shut the door. Black glue doesn't show as much, use nothing to clean fresh paint-it comes off as you found out. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,602 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,602 | Go real slow and I taped it inplace until it was dry. See the pictures in the link below. It was a pain and black glue is the key as it hides the errors! | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,378 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,378 | The way I do it is: 1: Wear latex gloves like the doc wears for those oh so plesant prostate checks. 2: Put adhesive on both the weatherstrip and the door where the weatherstrip will go using the finger of your choice. Dispose of gloves. 3: When both sides are tack free start sticking the weatherstrip to the door. It works like contact cement. You can wear a clean pair of gloves but it isn't normally necessary. No mess, no muss, no fuss.

I used Tiny's technique but with an acid brush (the kind you use for flux when soldering) instead of my finger. Worked great. I pressed the pieces together and they stuck pretty tight right away. The tricky part is to keep the weather strip from contacting anything between the time you put the glue on and the time you apply the strip to the door. I used a box cut open and laid across my truck bed. Then I just slid the card board onto the door (which was on a coupleof saw horses) to transfer from cardboard to door. Worked better than I thought. I thought I would have glue all over everything but I didn't. Good thing the adhesive I bought was yellow. That would have looked nice on my interior. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 256 Member | | Member Joined: May 2006 Posts: 256 | Denny...you could try denatured alc. for clean up..If you didnt paint with water borne paints this may not take your finish paint off,try it in an inconspicuous area first....(inconspicuous)that does not look correct??? An area you can not see...LOL...
