I have a 1955 1st 235 and I tried to put an insulator under the carburetor. After the install I started the engine and heard a sound like something was loose in the manifold. I shut the engine down and I feel that during the install of the insulator something fell into the intake. At idle no sound but when adding throttle sounds like it is hitting something.
I removed the carb again but there is no way to check inside the manifold. This means the removal of the intake. It sounds like the item is still in the manifold and hopefully has gone into the engine.
Any help ?

Are you sure it is not the heat riser valve making the noise. They are known for rateling noises. Hold on to the counter weight & see if it stops. Be careful it is really hot.

I don’t want to take a chance. It goes to the shop to have the manifolds removed and checked that nothing made it to the valves.
I put the insulator on below the carburetor and found that the throttle linkage changed and made it shorter to the gas pedal.
I could not find anything about installing the insulator. Is there an adjustment that can be made to the linkage.

Make sure not to take the intake manifold off the exhaust manifold, if that needs to be done, do not tighten manifold bolts holding the manifolds together until both are attached to head.
