I have a 52 Chevy truck with a 235 engine I had the fuel pump with the glass bowl,
I started the truck a few weeks ago to see the fuel pump leaking out of the weep hole.
I put the new pump back on that came with the engine. After start up fuel was bubbling out of the 2 top screws of the pump.
I did put a mustang fuel tank in the rear frame rails.
Is it possible to have 2 pumps fail or to much fuel flow from new tank?
Thanks for any thoughts on this

You're unlucky- - - -twice! There are far more bad "new" pumps out there than good ones. 12-year-old Chinese slave laborers just don't take much pride in their work!

Looks like I will roll the dice and hope the next pump will not leak.

52, I went through 3 bad ones on my initial start up! So frustrating!
Good luck, let’s pray that you get the 13 year old with a year of experience!

Yes, good luck indeed. I got so tired of the "junk pumps" I went to an electric pump and ran my oil filter lines out where the old pump used to be:

If you want more info about how I did this, please let me know.

Constructive criticism is a “good thing”.

Being a bully is a “bad thing”.

Making racist comments should be “unacceptable”.

Claiming a person doesn't/can’t do their job because of their race
is a textbook definition of a racist comment.

Moderators should accept responsibility and object to these incidents when they occur.

I don't see it as racism. I see it as a statement of fact that many (IMHO too many) parts are made in China, that many of those laborers are children and many don't take pride in their work. If they did there wouldn't be as many Chinese made junk parts produced. You are correct that racist comments are unacceptable. It's obvious that you disagree and see this as racism so I'll bring this thread to the attention of the site owners. Until they have the opportunity to review it I'll lock it.

Concur with Tiny. Jerry made a simple observation/statement of fact and I utterly fail to see how it was "racist." This has nothing to do with race but everything to do with the failed socio-economic policies of centralized/managed economies -- the serf state Friedrich Hayek warned us about. As long as the American consumer values low price over quality or North American manufacture, and we are willing to look the other way so as not to jeopardize those economy prices by making a stink about Chinese labor practices, then it will most likely continue to be an accurate assessment of Chinese manufacturing.

Another option is to rebuild the original fuel pump. Many (most) of our vendors supply a rebuild kit that comes with a diaphragm that is ethanol resistant. It is not a high tech procedure and allows you to understand how the thing works and why it might leak oil.

To come back to the original subject, it happens to me too, bought a Carter pump this past spring and was expecting something made in North America, but NOO! Made cheap in the foreign country talk about earlier. Only using the name. A tactics use quite often lately. So, I bought a nos AC for 100$.
I should I've known better.

Just returning this thread to the original subject/OP's question. Let's all stay on topic from here (I will if you will) and no more punching after the bell, ok?

Thanks,

latroca52,

I don't know about your '52 but the fuel pump on my '36 Chevy PU is rebuildable. I found that a '35-'40 Ford diaphragm fits and is more readily available and less expensive than the same part from a Chevy/GMC parts vendor. As Dad points out above the rebuild procedure is simple and disassembling a fuel pump is interesting because it shows what an incredibly simple device a mechanical fuel pump is. It just a diaphragm, a spring, a rocker arm and a couple of check valves facing in opposite directions in a cast housing.

Just a note to Santerre (J.F.) above about NOS pumps. If they are vintage, the diaphragm will not be resistant to ethanol and will fail prematurely. When that happens it not only quits pumping but dumps gasoline into the crankcase. I think it would be advisable to replace the diaphragm of an NOS pump before installation using one of the modern kits. You will then have the very best pump obtainable.
