ive recently bought a 42 1 1/2 ton that's been repowered with a blueflame at some stage. engine serial number is R71332. data ive found on 53 to 57 blueflames the R prefix doesn't come up, so im thinking it must be later than a 57 engine? can anyone confirm what year it is or any other specs on it like hp etc. its in new Zealand so will no doubt have come from Canada originaly. thanks for any help

The "R" probably indicates a Replacement engine code number.

If it is 54 or later - find and post here these codes
If it is 53 (or, earlier), here are code locations.

People can ID the head and block for you with those casting codes.

You might have an interesting time registering that vehicle, if the original engine serial number was used for titling/registration (the original engine serial number was often used for titling/registration).

thanks for that. my block casting number is GM 3836233, head casting is 3835913 , I havnt had time to pull rocker cover or starter motor to check on other casting numbers yet, and im having trouble figuring out what people refer to as "captains bars" on casting numbers? from the block casting number and checking on links ive seen im figuring its a early 1955 casting? thanks
