| | | | Joined: Aug 2017 Posts: 76 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2017 Posts: 76 | I have a 265 sbc with a Rochester 2 jet carb.Engine can be hard to start sometimes.When it does start it dies unless I keep the revs on.This happens even when engine is hot.After going on a run engine seems to tick over ok but if I leave it half hour same problem it dies off unless revs are on.I'm thinking carb problems.
Carb has auto choke but looks like it's been made into a manual choke which also does'nt work as flap is always open.

If they are disabled/converted to manual, you will have a vacuum leak. It will not cause a dramatic affect like you are experiencing, but it doesn't help.
I am thinking that you have a fuel delivery issue. Partially clogged fuel lines, or a week fuel pump.
I recommend removing the fuel line between the fuel tank and the inlet side of the fuel pump and blow compressed air through it.
Then remove the fuel line between the outlet side of the fuel pump and the carburetor and blow compressed air through it.
Have an assistant which you are not very fond of watch the end of the fuel line while you blow air through it to see if it blows debris out similar to a spit ball through a straw. (It can get messy when the pressure builds up in the line before she blows.
After that, hook every thing back up except the line at the carburetor and turn the starter over to see if the fuel pump is moving fuel at a rate which is acceptable.
