Upon research I found that the 2100s mode would be a direct bolt on. Upon further inspection, I found that the 2100s is also interchangeable with some other model numbers, one of those being the carter yf 966s. I found a used 966s that I was looking to purchase, but the seller says the mounting bolts centers are 2 5/8" apart. However my trucks spacing is about 2 7/8" roughly. I see the 966s is listed for fitting 1950-1952, but other places I see it's a direct replacement for the 2100s which I believe has the wider spacing like my truck. So my question is, can I use a 966s on a 1954 235? Was the carb mounting bolt spacing on the earlier 235 motors different from my 54? If so then the 966s is not directly interchangeable with the 2100s. Thanks for any info you guys can provide me with! | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | Ask the seller if the 966s is auto choke
Im using a 787s on my 54 235, but im using the 216 manifold with very good results

The information presented was extracted DIRECTLY from original CARTER prints, not from some vendor with the attitude "what do YOU WANT it to fit": http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Carter_YF_Chevrolet.htmI have found that generally the engineers knew exactly what they were doing. EDIT: center-to-center bolt spacing on the 966s is 2 15/16 inches. Jon. Good carburetion is fuelish hot airThe most expensive carburetor is the wrong one you attempt to modify. That chart you posted which Iv seen other places, shows the 966s to be an auto choke, but all the 966s' Iv seen appear to be manual choke. Iv also seen the 966 listed as an option for engines with manual choke. Maybe I'll contact the seller and ask him to measure the bolt spacing again. Maybe he measured wrong, or maybe somebody swapped the throttle body at some point. That is because the two Missouri hillbillys, one at Carter, the other at the Carburetor Shop, doing the research transposed two numbers! Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The file has now been corrected. We checked that file several times, but sometimes one cannot see the forest for all of the trees! Note there are a number of numbers on the list that say number issued, but not produced. We went through the complete existing Carter records from carburetor number 1 (which was an experimental unit for mid-teens 4-cylinder Chevrolet, and never built) on up to when Federal Mogul acquired Carter in the 1980's. The list should be complete, and HOPEFULLY there won't be any additional typos. There are lots of Carter carburetors that were never numbered, as Carter began actually numbering carbs around 1920. The earliest carbs were tagged, with a red cardboard tag! To date, I have seen exactly ONE original red tag! Brass tags came out in 1932. Some service carbs for pre-1932 carbs that were built AFTER 1932 do have brass tags. The first (known) original application of a Carter carburetor was an Austin with a 572 CID engine in 1911. The 966s is manual choke, the 967s has the Climatic control (auto choke). Apologies for the error! Jon. Well I guess I'll stay on the hunt for a 2100s, hopefully one shows up on ebay. There's one on there right now that looks pretty rough for $180, I think that's a little high right? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 3,690 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 3,690 | That’s VERY high, IMO. However, the large base Chevy YF’s tend to demand a better price than the small. They seem to be more scarce on eBay as well.
Sent you a PM.

Looks like a good unmolested original core to me. Would rather have this one than the "rebuilt" one also on ebay at $350. Jon.
