The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Hood / Fender line

I have a 53 GMC 9300. The passenger side where the hood and the fender meet has a line that follows fine from front to back. The drivers side is a different story. The gap between the hood and the fender is at least twice as big as the passenger side. Is this correctable and if so any ideas how ?

You probably need to adjust your Hinges..Does the hood make a Buckling sound when you close it,like when you close it real slowly does it make a poping sound?

Mike, no it doesn't make any noise and is not difficult to shut. It just doesn't seem to go down far enough on that side.

If the passeger side is perfect,look at the bumper adjustment at the back of the hood,there should be a adjustable bumper at the corner. try adjusting that, Sometimes they are old and brittle if they have not been replaced, there should also be rubber bumpers along the fender were is is bolted to the inner fender.Just check the usual spots, some of these bumpers may be raised up to high...not seating correctly. If that does not work,take the bolts out of the hinge (unhook) the hinge from the fire wall and close the hood..see if it flushes out, sometimes there is some play were the hinge will move down lower on the fire wall to lower the hood flush.See what happens and update your post. Sorry I haven't replied sooner...I got tied up with a couple of other issues.

I don't see a adjustable bumper at the corner. Maybe I'm not looing in the right place.

All the hood to fender rubers are new and in place.

It sounds like you may need to adjust your fender up to close the gap. Lay a level across from one fender to the other to see if they are on the same plane horizontally. Do this as close to the firewall as you can. Also check the level of the core support. If both the fender and the core support are off bubble the same amount you will need to shim up your core support. If you have not already done so check the core support where it attaches to the cross member to see if there is any rust rot causing the problem.
