I have looked everywhere for several months now and can't find rims to replace the 20 in 10 bolt 7.25 " circle rims on a 1952 6400. This made me wonder if there is a possibility of replacing the hubs to use modern rims. Any ideas?

I read that, but still haven't found a source for wheels. Accuride doesn't have wheels for the 6400 they have about an 8" bolt pattern. If I read all my research right, the best bet is a 3500 HD 10 bolt rim from late 90's to about 2005 and an adapter to make the hub fit. I wonder if there is enough demand out there for someone to makeka wheel that will work? I have access to 22.5R10 tires if I can find wheels to fit.

I worked with Wheels Now on a design to Fit 9.00 R 22.5's on rims with a center that fits 10 bolt, 7.27 circle centers and look original.
I have their final drawings and everything looks like it will work.
I am going to order them, just waiting a bit since the project isn't ready for them yet. Will in a month maybe.

Grigg,

If you are reading this thread, what type of rim is the original poster describing?

I think my 54 GMC COE with 9.00x20" original rims has the AR-5 style rim. My Goodyear Truck Tire dealer had no concerns or problems mounting Samson tires (and tubes) on those rims.

I am referring to the RH-5 made by Firestone. They are 8.25 x 20 inch rims.

I didn't see any pictures but if he's read the tech tip then likely RH5 as described.

From the tech tip in my opinion the best option are the factory 22.5" wheels from a 56-59 Chevy 1.5 ton.

Followed by stock multi piece 20" wheels that aren't RH5.

Pretty far down on the list are 19.5" wheels, they just look small unless your putting them on something from the 40's or earlier. Also smaller diameter tire hurts top speed and comfortable driving these days.

Custom made wheels are certainly a good option and depending on price, design, and how you like the look they could be top of the list or bottom or somewhere in between.
I haven't yet seen a design that looked plain and ordinary enough to not draw my attention to them, wondering what's up with those strange looking wheels?
Hopefully the wheels Jim is looking into look real nice and become a great option for others too.

I think 10R22.5 is pushing it a bit for fitting on an AD truck. Don't get excited about that size until proven to fit.
My 48 has 9R22.5 tires at 38" tall and they fit well but not much room for anything larger/wider.

Look on farm trucks, it seems they were early to try the new 22.5's in the late '50's.

I'll look around again for more farm trucks, but that is what this was, a farm truck. I ID'ed the RH-5s from a picture I found and then confirmed it with the owner. Thanks for the heads up on the 22.5 10's, I'll wait for the 9's. I'll have to look again, but I thought I read a post somewhere that the 8.25's on this truck crossed to a 10 22.5, but I could be wrong. I seem to remember that Chevy 3500HD rims will fit, but the hub hole is bigger and I will need to build an adapter. I understand a late 50's rim is ideal, but they aren't easy to come by.

8.25 x 20 crosses with a 9.00 x 22.5.

9.00 x 20 crosses with a 10.00 x 22.5

The TF wheels will have a 5.25" center hole, AD wheels are 4.75".

Thanks Mike, I'll steer clear of the 10.00 x 22.5. Too bad, I could get them really cheap. I have a local machine shop that can make some adapters for me if needed.

It'd be awesome if these would be available to the rest of us after you get yours. Is it something they plan on producing multiple runs of?

Did Wheels Now ever build those wheels you were talking about? Any idea on pricing?

I have extra multi-piece rims if needed. I will even blast and prime them if needed.

Multi-piece rims scare me. I have some 19.5 inch RV rims for now until I can find the 22.5s I want.

Two times I have purchased trucks ('57 6100 Chevy and '65 Chevy C60) with 22.5's and they BOTH came from surplus Government sales. One was a City truck and the other was from the State of Kansas . In the case of the City truck, they also gave me the old split rims and tires in the back of the C60. I bought the '65 C60 just for the wheels and tires (to put on my '63 GMC 4000) stuck the old wheels and tires back on it and sold it. My point is that it seems that the City, County and State Governments were early on to replace the split rims with 22.5's. So scour your city back lots for old trucks that they don't use and might sell. ALSO some school busses use 9.00x22.5 tires and usually have to replace them early long before they are worn out. JP

I have looked at school busses, and around here they use 22.5 x 10, too wide to work. I had a source that would give me all the used tires that size I could take. He is retired now,so that source is probably dried up, even if they would work. I'll look into the city/county thing. I live far enough from the city they pipe in the sunshine, but at least the sunshine is clean!

Wheels can be made for that pattern. I had Stockton Wheel in California make a set for an international. They are on the web with a pretty good website www.stocktonwheel.com/

22.5's with 5 on 8" bolt pattern do exist, which fit IHC, I have 2, so, look around.
