I'm trying to get my Suntune Engine Analyzer back on line. The insulation on the two lead wires has deteriorated, so want to replace them.
I thought it was just stranded copper wire, but when taking a closer look, it has something else with it. It looks fiber like (it's not wire). I don't know if it's part of the insulation, or something else that performs a functional purpose.
Is there some "special" wire I need to replace this?

Just a thread to take up tension so you didn't pull the stranded copper wire apart.
You can get test lead from any electrical supply house, I just replace the
ones on a Sun Growler that were the same way, i.e., insulation cracked
and falling apart.

I would suggest using wire specifically made for "test lead" wire. It is much more
flexible, but......after all.......I am known to be a purist when it comes to "restoration"
be it my trucks, my machines or any of the tools in my shop.
A lot of effort went into designing and development of all this stuff, when we
amateur engineers try to re-engineer it, 99% of the time we end up with a
product that is far inferior to the original.

High-flex test lead wire is available in bulk on Ebay, and it comes in several colors. The difference is that the wire has dozens of strands of very fine wire and won't fatigue and break strands under the insulation as you use it. Regular primary wire is also far too stiff to be used for a tester.
