A former neighbor (now deceased) and his wife drove an early-60's half ton Chevy with a 235 3 speed from Merced California to Tennessee in the early 1980's, towing a huge 2-axle trailer loaded with all their worldly possessions on it. He said there were a few times he had to drive a few feet uphill, have his wife jump out with a wheel chock to keep the rig from rolling backwards, and let the old engine rest awhile, then repeat the process. I was amazed he made it around the block with that rig, let alone travel 2500 miles! The trailer was badly overloaded, and the truck bed was full, as well.

...it didn't look much different). Me, wife, and dtaugher plus 1 dog & 1 cat...towing a honda behind my 55 1st series truck. Google maps says it's 2640 miles.
