This seems like an excellent idea tto eliminate linkage slop and keep the gas pedal operational if the hand cable broke. Can anyone identify that clip or know where to find one. Here's my present configuration. The linkage connection is kind of sloppy. I think this is the way it was when I bought the truck, but can't remember that far back. Throttle linkage with just hand throttle calbe through "cotter pin" holeAlso, my truck has set for a few years and the hand throttle and clutch buttons/linkage feel really stiff. Any suggestions on lubrication?

If your gas peddle rod is hooked to the linkage/swivel on the side of the engine, and then goes up to the carb, you should take out the wire we see and in lieu of the clip your looking for you can use a washer and a cotter pin to tighten it up until you can find the pin. Then hook the cable back to where it belongs, either the choke or as a throttle cable. There is no cable like in the pic that is part of the gas pedal to carb linkage.
In reality the throttle cable is used to hold the carb linkage in a certain spot once you get the speed where you want it.......sort of like a cruise control.
Hope this makes sense to you. | | | | Joined: May 2018 Posts: 18 New Guy | New Guy Joined: May 2018 Posts: 18 | The foot throttle rod/linkage comes up from bottom. The hand throttle cable "wire" is coming down from carburetor, and is held in place with the small clamp (which can be moved to adjust engine idle speed). The hand throttle wire goes through what should probably be the cotter pin hole. It works as is...but is kinda sloppy. Hope I explained that clearly enough...doubt it though

I dont know what a clutch button is But if your talking about the choke, I would just operate if a few times, see if it works free...you dont want them to loose or they wont hold the position | | | | Joined: May 2018 Posts: 18 New Guy | New Guy Joined: May 2018 Posts: 18 | I guess I should read my posts before sending I'll disconnect the cables and try working them like you suggest. Thanks

Mine were also pretty stiff from lack of use so I removed the entire cable from the dash, and liberally oiled the outside of the sheath and just twisted the cable around to work the oil to the inside. Once I was happy with how it moved, I wiped down the sheath with a rag to get rid of as much of the excess oil as I could and reinstalled. Dads50 is right in that you don’t want it too loose, but I did not have have any problems with that myself; maybe with all the bends in it, it keeps enough tension on the wire. This also works for the cowl vent cables if you have those.
If I may ask a question on the same subject, how does the throttle cable hook up to the lnkage at the carb without interfering with the normal foot feeder operation? Mine may be missing a part, and I cannot find any good diagrams/pictures on how the two connect.
Thanks, Lee.

I just need to have a nice straight wire, feed it through the hole in the end of the arm and then attach a stop. Thanks, I’ll give it a try.
Lee.
