I tried to make a pattern from the driver's side and put it on the pass side and it looks like something is very wrong. the arms of the mirrors are not the same, but based on the pattern appears to be in the correct spot. is this right? Can someone please tell me what I did wrong or help me with a pattern...or do I have the wrong mirror? Any help is appreciated.

To locate the hole positions easily, take off the passenger door inner panel. At the front of the inner part of the door, just under the vent window, you will see the reinforcement panel. There will be 3 holes in it already. Use those as the guide to drill the holes. It's a little tricky to do, but you can drill them from the inside. I'd suggest drilling a 1/8" pilot hole from the inside first, then do the final drilling fron the outside. When you get the mirrors mounted, you will see that the passenger mirror will be much further back than the driver's side, this is correct. I'll get some pix of mine and post, as soon as I gat some batteries in the camera (had to put my last 2 in the mouse! :hammering: )

The reinforcement plate is in there but I wasn't able to reach it from the inside with a regular drill. I measured the hole pattern on the driver's side and duplicated it on the passenger's side. It came out real close to matching the backup plate. The backup plate didn't have any weldnuts on it so I had to make a small plate with nuts and tack it in. It's not perfect but you have to be inside the door to tell it.

Thanks for the info! Been looking at my LMC catalog and thinking of getting the chrome round mirror for the other side. The front of the new catalog has a truck with both mirrors which is why I started searching this topic on here.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking of trying maybe a 72' chevy type mirror, the old square type. The original 60s model mirrors are a little small for a long bed truck in Los Angeles traffic. Look good, just can't see for nada.
Any ideas? pics of what folks have tried. thanks tony | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | Longbox is right on, I did this, BUT, I suggest only drilling one 1/8" hole from back, then place mirror base on and mark the other two and then drill them with 1/8 from front, then final holes from front also. The "guide" clearance holes are large and you would have to find the exact middle in such a hard to reach place. You will get a better fit for those unforgiving csk head type screws. So just drill the easiest one from back.

I also want to install the proper mirrors from LMC and have ordered the chrome ones. Could someone take a picture of their truck mirrors with a few measurement stickers from some prominent points on the trucks body and included them in the photo that should get us close enough to find our centers. It would be a great help to all of us...just an idea and THANKS, Steve | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | Don't know about AD but in TF, the "clearance" holes on the inside are in a separate piece and maybe when they welded the door skin they didn't weld the inside strut. Did you check? Best way to measure stuff is go to the next meet/show.
