Hello all, I need to pick your brains as I am having a lot of trouble getting a rear brake drum off of my 1966 C 30 ton truck. I have cut off the hold down pins from the outside and get the locking nuts and clips out of the axle, but for the life of me I cannot get the shoes to let go of the drum, I have rocked the hub back and forth ,cut a brake line trying to release pressure and pried and pounded, all to no avail, what is next ? All help will be appreciated. Thank you , Pat.

Have you tried removing the hub and drum as one assembly? To do that you would need to remove the axle shaft first by unbolting the inner ring of bolts in the center and pulling the shaft out, then removing the two ring nuts that hold the hub bearings in position. It might also be necessary to unbolt the wheel cylinder from the backing plate so the whole shoe/drum/wheel cylinder assembly can be pulled out far enough to access the adjuster and back the shoes away from the drum. Try not to destroy any more parts and pieces than necessary. Some replacements are a little hard to find. Good luck!

Thanks Jerry, Yes I did remove the axle and nuts, and still no luck, I a. Thinking that if I can get a puller on the axle housing maybe the tim keen bearing will come out and make it easier to remove, cannot turn the wheel only rock it in and out. pat

Well after pounding and prying nothing worked, so as a last resort I cut a small hole in the darker plate and cut off the lower star wheel adjuster and the hub let go so I now have the brake exposed. Lesson learned, if it happens again to do this, I will weld a small piece of metal deck the same size as the rubber plug to adjust the brakes and call it a day, thanks for the help, Pat.
