Im thinking about going with Blitz Black (black suede) anyway it's the low gloss black on my 51 Ive talked to a few people about it turning chalky or it fading after a few years. One guy said to put a clear coat on and another guy said to mix a "dulling agent" in with regular gloss paint to get it "low gloss"

Any ideas
Todd

Sorry.... I can't help you but hope you get an answer... I like that look too.
The Jeep jeeps had a non gloss finish available a few years ago... have seen a few around here that are looking a bit rough now.. seems they get even duller is some spots.
The look I am thinking about was from the '50s and 60's .... just painting with black primer.. but that is not a protective coat.
Come on guys.... someone must know a good way of doing this ! !

The JD black is a bottom of the barrel type paint. All the JD paint Ive seen and used is synetic enamel(Ive restored several JD tractors), which a waste of time and money IMO.

You are far better off with a urethane product. You use a single stage urethane and add flattner to make it any gloss you like. A SS product requires no clear and far better then any enamel based product.

Also many paint companies offer a flat clearcoat, PPG has 2065. You can spray any color of base then topcoat it with a flat clear. You get all the benefits of a clearcoat but have a dull flat finish.
You can also add flattner to the regular gloss clears as well.

If you spray a clear on it to protect, yup have them put a flattening agent in it. In my experience it does turn more gray and I guess chalky would be a good description after a year or so if left exposed.

There are some places that sell single stage with a flattening agent already in it, but I found it hard to get a satisfactory finish with it. I am sure a pro would get far better results though.

Thanks Guys,
I'll check into the urethane, I seen a car in here in town that was done in the JD "blitz black" and ask the guy about it that's how I found out what is was called, and it looked sweet !! but it gets REAL HOT here in Vegas and in just a few months it looked horrible !! Im sure glad I came here to find out how to do it, rather than do all that work for a paint job that will only last a summer if not done right
Thanks again

Todd
