I've searched for posts about radiator leaks, but I don't think that is my issue: I am restarting my 1950 150 after having the head off and draining all coolant from the block and radiator. It starts and runs fine, but the temp on the gauge--which I think is in good shape--rises to 220 in few minutes. Now I see that it wasn't getting coolant, so hopefully I didn't already mess the thing up. Before all the head work, it idled and ran and never got above 180. At first, I filled the radiator until fluid came out of the top petcock; now when I try to fill to that point, fluid flows out a drain hose in the bottom of the radiator, a hose connected to the same piece as the bottom drain petcock. I now know that I need to drill that famous 1/8" hole in the thermostat flange and fill until coolant presents at the temperature probe opening, but still the fluid drains out that bottom hose before I can get to that point. Any notions?
