Hey everybody, What do you think my chances are of loosening one side of the windshield and replaceing the glass? The gasket is in good shape, I just need to replace the broken glass. Would I be better off removing the hole thing, and replaceing the gasket and the glass? I welcome any and all ideas, or suggestions. Jimmie D.

i think , others may have more expierience , but i would remove the whole thing .
reason 1 you will get a look under the seal for any creeping rust an fix it before it gets worse, Eastwoods encapsulater works great for this .
reason 2 i dont think youll be bale to get the 1 pane of glass back in , the windshield was made to be installed as a unit .
Just my thoughts

AW_Radial Thanks for your input. I had pretty much decided to replace the entire windshield. I can buy replacement glass for 28 bucks a pane locally so I think that is what I will do.

If the gasket is more than a year old it will be to stiff to put back and not have it leak. Replace the gasket whenever you pull the glass.

Hi Guys,
Maybe I am doing something wrong, but it took me less than 30 minutes to remove the passenger side of the windshield. I used a fair amount of soapy water and 5 1 inch putty knives to loosen the rubber in increments from the pinchweld. The drivers side took even less time, with out cracking the glass. (at least anymore than it was) The local glass company cut a new piece using the old glass as a template. The cheapest place I could find for laminated glass online was 60 bucks. The local company did it for 28.50 plus put a rush on it so I could install it this weekend. 4onthefloor, you are right. I thought the gasket was good enough to reuse. After I removed it, it was obvious it needed replaced. So I will order a new gasket, and prep and paint the interior this weekend.

The thing is a lot easier to take out than put back in! I broke one side the first time I attempted one. If it feels like it is fighting you, then it is. Don't force it.
