Good morning!

I'm working on a new project, a 1955 Second Series GMC 1/2 ton Pickup, and working on the suspension and frame first.

The upper u-bolt bracket in the rear appears to be a helper spring of some kind with the bump-stop built into it, but I can't find it any of the diagrams from any of the major parts houses. I was hoping one of you guys had seen it before and might be able to point me in the right direction, explain what it is and why it's different. I'm new to the older pickups.

It seems to come with an additional bracket, and my best guess is that it's some sort of additional spring help for super heavy loads:

That's the good one, the one on the other side is broken off at the curve and I'm not having much luck finding a replacement. Wasn't sure if it was standard on the trucks, an option, or something totally aftermarket.

I appreciate any help!

That appears to be half of a football-shaped overload spring- - - -notice the jagged edges at the top and bottom? I believe I've seen those offered as an aftermarket item in catalogs like J.C. Whitney, etc. back in the 1960's. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will come by shortly and offer a better analysis!

I checked again today and that's just the way it's finished to be, it's not broken. At least that side. The other side is snapped off at the bend.
