I have painted my 63's frame with POR-15 and am trying to figure out what I have to do to topcoat it (since the POR needs to be protected from UV rays). I bought some black paint from NAPA (part number PCC135B, PDS attached). On a properly prepared surface, this stuff doesn't need a primer, so I didn't even think about applying it over POR. There is a "tie coat" primer that your supposed to put over POR before you topcoat it, but I don't know if I need it for the NAPA stuff or not. I tried to do some research on it, but I'm just spinning my wheels, so I thought i'd ask you guys.

You can top-coat/overcoat/primer POR within a certain short period of time.

If outside that period of time you need to apply a "tie" coat.

Will your frame "see" much UV-rays/sunlight?


From POR website:

- Topcoat when first coat is dry but with slight finger-drag remaining, usually 4-5 hours.

- TO TOPCOAT A FULLY CURED POR-15 SURFACE:
Wet sand with 320 grit until gloss is dull, then paint, or use POR-15 Tie-Coat Primer directly on the cured POR-15 surface, then topcoat as desired.
