How was the identification plate fastened to the door pillar on a Chevy advanced design pickup? rivets or screws. I've heard lately there checking a lot of collector cars for Switched or false I.D. plates. Thank you.

What year?

1950 was probably the last year that small clutch-head hex-screws were used. (those screws are hard to find)

Later A-D years used a non-reusable punch-in rivet - reproductions are available. They were also used on cars & trucks after Advance-Design years.

1947-50 (my '50 came with Phillips type, original owner truck, this has been debated ad nauseum).

I thinking checking would need to be defined, owners, auction houses, law enforcement, who exactly? I have owned 32 of these in various states and never had one inspected? Titles can be replaced entirely by mail where I live, can the plates be switched, sure, can you prove it, that is another post.

I have three 54/55 trucks that want/need to be registered in NC.

NC would not register them with a reproduction ID plate, or with an original ID plate with new screws/rivets. One of my titles/registrations had the Vehicle Serial Number on its last registration.

I had to get my Suburban a bonded title/registration.

I might get one of my trucks registered more easily, since it has the Engine Serial Number on the last title/registration.

I bought my 53 3100 truck in California in 1980 from a dealer. Several years later I got pulled over and they noticed the ID plate number did not match the registration. The CHP inspected it for days after work and could not find any numbers on it. They put a California ID plate on it and gave me a new registration. In 1989 I drove it to Indiana and parked it until a year ago. When I went to get a new title California said they had no record of it. I had to see a judge in Indiana to get an Indiana title and registration. The new title has the original ID plate number on it. I am also running original 1951 plates with a 1953 topper.
