The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Fuel Pump-Carter M2118

Just discovered that not all Carter M2118 are the same! Decided to replace my fuel pump on my '56 235 since I could not fix the leak.
Proceeded to order this from RockAuto, looked exactly like the one I was replacing!

Well it turns out what I received is not what is shown. Here's what I got, similar to the one also sold by Summit.

The arm is a u-shaped piece of steel, not like the layered/sandwiched and pinned arm on the original. (looks cheap)
Plus the inlet and outlet on top are 1" plus higher than original. If I wanted to redo both lines I could probably make it work, but
I'll be calling Rock Auto monday to return it and keep looking for one more like the original.
Why can't they post the correct photo in their catalog?
Evidently the AirTex 4149 is the same pump?

It appears that some wholesale distributor is putting Airtex pumps in "Carter" boxes. They're not even close to the same quality of pump. Back in the dark ages Carter was the best available, and an OEM Carter item would still be. The slogan for years was "The ABC's of carburetion- - - - -Always Buy Carter!" That also applied to their fuel pumps!
