Here's a new twist...I need to remove the Bondo, not put it in. The PO shave the door handles and I want to reinstall them. He pulled the handles then body filled the holes. How can I remove the putty without banging the very good and straight sheetmeatal up or messing up the holes for the handle. The hole on the inside of the door will be somewhat hard to get to due to a large brace. Thanks

just redrill thru the filler,,if installer of the filler has dimpled the area and you install handles over the filler it will most likly crack out in use as it is not good to use filler in stress areas...doc

beltfed:

Blasting is a great way to remove filler and maintain the integrity of the sheet metal below. Any good blasting with experience on body panels will know the process and the media to use for body filler removal.

Good luck with your project.

If you heat bondo with a torch it easily scrapes off. I've done it many of times!

Blasting bondo uses alot of sand (takes long).

Sand/drill/whatever it takes to get it out.

Shoot, you can carve out a little at a time with a knife if you wanted.

Take a 3M paint/rust stripper wheel on a drill to it. It will take the bondo off and do nothing to the metal. I have done this and it works really well. The wheel is sometimes referred to as a metal conditioning wheel.

A propane torch and putty knife is a lot faster and easier. I have to do the samething tomorrow. Remove some old bondo the PO applied triing to fill some dents that he didn't bother pulling out.

No better smell than that of fresh paint. I've been building and painting cars/trucks for 47 years. Not gonna stop now.
