Trying to assemble spare tire carrier parts that came with the truck, there is a slide type bar apparatus mounted to chassis and then I have a long 3 ft or so piece with a J bolt in it that appears to be the lower tire rest on piece, then two other brackets, one a small bracket with round side to it, and the other bracket about 18 inches that has two mounting holes that line up with the smaller round brakcet piece, I have the chevy assembly manual and shop manuals for this year and they show an entirely differrent set up, I think this is some kind of swing down and to rear appartus, any help or drawing of how it goes together and works will be greatly appreciated

Ala,
Click on the below pic to see the spare tire set up I use on my 50. Hit the next button at upper right to see more pics.

I assume the channel that is attached to your frame runs lengthwise down the center? Yes it is a swing down. After you unloosen the J bolt the tire and it's mounting bracket drops to the ground (careful, heavy) You then pull the assy out from under the bed by sliding it along the channel that is attached to frame.

Those pictures show how to do it, not sure why Craig removed the piece mounted to the frame, they are riveted on.
Craig's is also probably a reproduction one. If yours is original, it is quite rare and valuable, since you will soon learn they are a real PIA and most have been trashed long ago by previous owners.

Huh? Sorry but what you see in the pics has nothing to do with the fix running track that is still riveted to the frame.

Ala,
When you click on the above pic, you come to Webshots, yes? Look in the upper RH corner. Don't you see "next"?

Denny, that is correct. It is a repro.

Craig,
picture #3 shows the upper track, and it is not on the frame. That is what I am talking about. Mine is riveted in place.

Brian,
My error. Sorry about that. Now that I studied the pic I remember that the track on my truck was not riveted. Just bolted on. Maybe the PO drilled out the rivets.

On my '50 the rail just bolted in just like Craigs, no rivets.
