Dear Bo;ters,

I am doing a frame off restauration of a 1949 Chevy 3100, 1/2 ton and was wondering if anybody has the original color codes for the dashboard/doors inside, body frame, and motor.
What would be the colour inside the fenders and seat frame in the cab?
Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,
Michael

Take the time to look through the Tech Tips and read the thread just above this one.🛠

X2. Please use the search function. I recommend the Search link at the upper right of this screen. If you don't find your [multiple] answers there, please narrow the question to the specific item you're encountering conflicting answers to. If the search function is not working for you for some reason, please PM me and we'll get some help headed your way.

Maringo,

I doubt if you will find many of the original/Dupont/PPG color codes that you are looking for. If you do, please post them here.

By searching the forum, as suggested by Jim, you might find what other members have used for the paint colors you requested.

Here are 1949 paint code names for 1949 (but, no paint codes):
This Tech Tip has some original color codes, and some advice on how/where to get the paints.

I have listed your items below (1949 colors are what you are interested in):

Here are the codes you requested:
- dashboard - one of the interior colors
- door interiors - one of the interior colors
- body frame - I use semi-gloss black
- seat frame in the cab - same as one of the interior colors
- 1949 216 motor - I would use the darker gray engine paint (with a little blue in it) that many vendors sell
- inside the fenders - I use semi-gloss black

You know I fought with the proper codes and then the matching color doesn't always match the code. Case in point, some years ago, a buddy of mine was trying to find the correct Tropical Turquoise for his 57 Chev. Got the proper codes and then went shopping paint chips to match his original paint in his trunk. There were so many shades of this paint it got comical to pursue it to far. The spectrum of colors from one end of his car to the other was 5 diffferent colors based on the age of the paint and how it weathered through time with the sun god. In the trunk was greeny turquoise , on the dash a bluey oxidized tropical turqoiuse. If you are doing a complete repaint, pick your type of paint ie single stage vs base coat clear then get a paint chip you like then get to it. You will keep your sanity too.

Regarding the paint color on the inner fenders, I stripped the dealer under coat of my 53 and found the nicest "gloss black" under it. I know later chev cars and trucks had semi flat inner fenders but these were gloss might have a picture. Because the picture is compressed to fit the format of this UBB it is hard to see any gloss.
