i'm ready to paint the running boards on the fire truck and believe the color is "silver." However I wanted to ask you all what color and why? The truck is a 1951 6400 Oren fire truck.

That running board was most likely not painted at the factory - the firetruck was most likely a cab and chassis from GM that was made into a firetruck at another non-GM factory.

Which truck in your webshots are you referring to? Who was the manufacturer? Maybe someone with a pristine truck (not uncommon, for a firetruck) will post the color of their running boards.
