| | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 103 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 103 | I installed the running board brackets onto my frame which is a 41 3/4 ton special, but the running board does not line up with the mounting holes on the bracket closes to the front of the truck. I don't remember any kind of shim to angle the bracket & I checked my pictures from dis assembly, but don't see any type of shim. I probably should of taken better pictures, anyway can anyone help me out. Thanks James

If you took the brackets off the frame, are you sure you put the front bracket back on the front of the frame.
I've got a feeling that GM mounted the brackets to the running boards first and then the brackets to the frame. And the holes are spaced different between the two brackets. I don't know for sure, but I have a 46 in the shop and I will look at them tomorrow.

This is my first project & when I removed the brackets I compared them to one another & they looked the same, so I assumed they were interchangeable. I compared the brackets again more closely & found out that two were longer then the rest. I mounted the brackets to the R.B. first then to the frame & bingo!! it works. The longer brackets are in front. This is a learning experience & don't assume anything & put stuff back exactly were you removed them & take lots of pictures.

| | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 275 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2007 Posts: 275 | Hey James, I'm glad you got it figured out. I looked at my brackets and did notice that the slotted holes are spaced differently between the front and back brakets.
I am going to mount my running boards different than factory. I think it will be easier to spot weld bolts into the running board holes. Then put nuts on the bottom of the running board bracket. I think this will work.
Did you take your front fenders off? I am going to seperate the inner fender from the fender. The inner fender is riveted to the fender. I am going to us bolts in place of the rivets. Then mount the inner fenders t the cab and radiator support first. Then I can attach the fender easier
