I've just about got the '46 running so it's time to think about doing something to get it on the freeway at speeds above 50 mph. I read the only thread I could find on swaps for art deco 3/4 tons but it was a lighter truck with 6 lug wheels. Mine is the heavier unit with 8 lug wheels. I've also read the 14 bolt rear end swaps but they seem to be mostly for AD vehicles. Would a 14 bolt work in a '46 3/4 ton? Right now everything else is stock but I'm seriously considering a 235 full pressure engine for some more reliability.

thanks for any input
Joe

14 bolt would also work in your truck, but check measurements, how wide is the original axle?

Joe, from my research a 14 bolt will work with modifications made. Frames on a 3/4 ton are narrower than 1/2 tons. As I recall, you will need to move the spring perches, make changes to the brake lines and emergency brake. There's plenty on info on this site to help you.

My truck was already modified when I got it. Already set up for sbc and had front and rear axles changed out to TF. I just went with a 700r4 trans and think I'll be alright on the highway with my 33" tires----yet to be determined.

Grigg is a great help!

Morning guys,

I'm going to head over to the shop that is helping with the engine work later this week. I'll check the axle width. I'll keep looking for info on the 14 bolt swap. Thanks for all the info. I really love this site. I hope to be posting more photos as work progresses.

Joe
