My oil filter cannister gasket is cracked and brittle. Need a new one, but can't locate one to buy. Any ideas? 1962 235 engine.

Tape it together as best as you can on a sheet of paper and take it to NAPA, if you have one. If not try any auto parts store or Tractor Supply. You may get lucky.

A new filter typically comes with a new seal. You may have to cross reference numbers to find one that fits. Wix typically has one that will fit.

Get a sheet of cork gasket material from your FLAPS and cut one out for yourself.

Go to your FLAPS or a TSC and look for a WIX 51100, 51006 or a Fram 1100. These are cartridge type oil filters of very similar size (they are basically interchangable). They include a rubber top seal. Take your old one and see if they match up.
Good luck

Take the top of the canister with you when you go filter shopping. Check the gasket that's included with the filter element to be sure the gasket fits the lid. Some filters come with two different diameter gaskets to fit different canisters.

WIX 15039 fits AC canister, WIX 15017 fits Fram and Innerline canister filters. Your may be able to cross them to another manufacturer.
