Bill - That's what I have done to my truck. I have a 1956 261 inline six in a 1937 1/2 ton pick-up with a1985 Astro Van Transmission T-5 behind it. You will have to go to an open driveline. I chose a 1956 Chevrolet car five lug rear end - 3:55. I put a 1947-1954 Chevrolet truck front axel under the truck and 56 Chevrolet car five lug front drums. This gives you five lug drums all the way around which makes it easier to choose some nice wheels. It's allot of work, but comes together as a pretty nice truck with a dual master cylinder. See my truck on my facebook page.
