Anyone on here have a 47-54 GMC 450, or 470 series truck, with 5 spd. tranny, that can tell me what type, PTO, they have. I'm looking to find one for my 470 series COE, with Clark 205V tranny, but don't know which PTO to look for. I have several, but they are all from Medium Duty Chevrolet's with SM420 4 spds.

I bet John would craw under and get a pic of it once he sees this since that is where Buddy resides.

I'll be glad to. But it might be later in the day before I can get out there to do it

Very possible Bill. John, if you can indeed do that for me I'd appreciate it. Especially if there is some type of tag on it. I've got to get it right the first time. I've got a friend of mine, and his crew swapping over the Holmes Wrecker from my 48 Chevy COE, over to my '52 GMC COE, & they want to get this resolved, before the Wrecker swap, begins.

No joy on a tag, but I did find this cast into the housing -- "LS1 Arrow Gear Co."
Hope this helps. Any chance you can join us for Homecoming this year?

Thanks Ed. John, for doing that for me. That's a Arrow Brand pto, Gives me a Brand name to do a search for. Looks like it's mounted on the right side of the tranny ?

Spanky -- Correct. It's mounted on the right side. It's rather a stout unit.

I expect most makers of PTO's offered one with the right gears for the transmission at hand, and for the application too. Reversing, low speed, high speed, clockwise, CCW, full or part time... there are so many PTO variations out there.
Also when hunting for a PTO the same housing will usually fit gears that allow it to fit many different transmissions, even different makes, so unless you take it off the very same model transmission you have it's still a gamble if it'll fit.
As also requested. Sorry for the quality issues. My cell phone ain't what she used to be ... And the Stovebolt.com accountant won't let me get a new Nikon D5 (can you believe that ??? )
The in-cab image shows two levers outboard of the parking brake lever. The inboard one is directly mounted to the shaft coming out of the picture and it's base (where it is connected to that shaft) is illustrated in the 2nd (abstract/Salvatore Dali painting) image. The outboard lever (closest to camera) is mounted to the angle bracket seen bolted to the cab floor and connects, via rods, to the secondary gear box below the winch. That lever has 3 positions -- forward, neutral and reverse.
The two levers next to the drivers left foot control the winch itself.
Hope this helps. I should be able to get better pictures tomorrow if you'd like.

Good idea, Spanky -- The forest of levers inside this truck is a little scary -- in an emergency situation, the driver is NOT making a fast egress.

Hi y'all, hope everyone is doing well. I'm new to this site and I have a question that I hope someone can help answer. I recently purchased a 1951 chevy 6400 (2ton) stake bed with a 4 speed transmition. my hopes is to turn it into a dump truck utilazing parts from the era. also recently found a 1949 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 dump truck for parts.
my question is. can i use the pto, hidraulics, etc. from the 3500 and use it on my 6400??
Hy Flash1951, Welcome, If your "1949 Chevrolet Silverado 3500" truly is a 1949 Chevrolet one ton truck, it will have the same transmission as the 1951 Chevy 6400, so the parts should be interchangeable between the two trucks. There was no "Silverado" designation in 1949.
