For some reason I’m not getting much or most the time no wrapping noise come out my exhaust . I had manifold split. Intake was porcelined for look and exhaust manifold was jet coated. I’m am wondering where to begin with my trouble shooting . What would be most likely my issue with no wrap coming out of engine . I have timed engine rebuilt carb made sure my vacume advance moved on acceleration . And exhaust manifold seems not to be leaking air I also removed my glass pack and currently running strait pipes still very little wrap .any advice or past experiences would be appreciated | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,442 Bolter | Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,442 | Don't have a solution for your problem but I'll have to admit it is the first time i have heard of a six with straight pipes not having a "wrap".

All I know is that my 261, with many carburetor setups and two different dual pipe/exhaust setups, made/makes too much noise. Enough that a police officer pulled me over and told me that he had called me in because my rapping made him fearful that I would try to run him (I asked him if he would please write that on the ticket/summons). Gleaned from the link above: if you are using original diameter pipes, you should expect reduced "rapping". The 216 engine might also have only minimal rapping potential? | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 | Have you tried playing different music for it? Maybe it's just not in the mood to rap to your choice of tunes! Jerry

If you wanted a 216 to "rap", would smaller diameter exhaust system pipes help? High-pitched raps? | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 | Smaller pipes will create higher velocity in the exhaust system, but the placement of the muffler(s) is the critical factor. Low-restriction mufflers close to the engine and a long tailpipe will allow for more resonance. I've got a cure for loud pipes- - - -it involves a good bench rest and an accurate rifle! Jerry

I have always thought that loud pipes are for people with certain character/physical traits that are inappropriate to specify in any forum here.
I hope you do not mind me including motorcycles.
