Just rebuild the 3 speed manual transmission in the 40' 1/2 ton. On the ball at the base of the shifter lever, there are two tabs. Both are worn pretty good. I have been looking for a NOS replacement or one that is in good condition. Not having much success. Any one know of a place that may have one. Secondly, if one in good condition can not be found, is it possible to rebuild the tabs by building up and filing off the welds to make new tabs?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

The ball has a pin that goes straight through, not tabs. The pin is knurled in the center to keep it tight.
I have NOS ones, but I think any pin the right size loctited in would work fine.

Your intro indicates 40'(40 ft.) which might be too tall to fit in the cab, do you really mean '40(1940) shifter?

EdPruss, Yes it is a 1940 1/2 ton pick up.
Pre '68 Dave what would it take to talk you out of one of those pins?

Quick question for Theo ..I recently had my 3 speed transmission rebuilt on my 1940 chevy 1/2 Tom aswell was wondering if you experienced your tranny being very loud while in drive it seems like it’s a constant rough noise very unpleasant .. is this normal for these stock 3 speed tranny’s .. I rebuilt tranny mainly for this reason aside for my syncros seeming like they were going out because I had problems jumping into second gear at times
