I've used the search and unfortunately all I've come up with are good threads on using the early 70's GM truck IFS on an AD truck. I saw this article on OldChevyTrucks where the guy talked about bolting in a '75 GMC IFS on a '42:

http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/blog/index.php/2001/01/1946-chevrolet-truck/

Doesn't mention narrowing it, or cutting anything up like all the AD installs. Says it just "bolts in with 3/8" shims". Anyone done this IFS swap on a '41-'46 truck, or know of a good thread with pics/measurements? I was gonna keep the straight axle and just swap spindles from a '59 to get bendix brakes, but after rebuilding a '67 Dodge and keeping the straight axle I was disappointed in the driveability of the truck. Seriously considering IFS for the '46 now as a result.

Also, my preference would be to somehow retain 6-lug to match the Colorado rear going into the truck and run stock wheels, but I suppose I can fix that later.

His pictures speak a thousand words- - - -it's a goofy-looking installation with tire tread sticking out past the fenders, and a considerably wider track in the front than the rear. Cutting about 3" out of the center of the crossmember and the relay rod, and doing some creative mounting of the steering gear and the idler arm would be required, or using some Rube Goldberg rack and pinion setup would be necessary. Narrowing the crossmember would also require repositioning the front motor mounts. Even with all that modification, it would still be better than using some sort of subcompact car IFS like a lot of people do.
