I want to maintain the 18" wheel size, yet get a custom look. I dont know how the dipped ones hold up, but I found alot of options within the semi truck world but obviously an adapter would be needed that probably doesnt exist. Has anyone else done a custom 16-18" wheel? What'd you do?
An idea you might consider.... My 55 2nd truck came with a God awful rusty chrome and red small wheel. I found a stock one on ebay and repaired the cracks and gave it a few coats of Rustoleum. Then added a black wrap cause I figured the paint would wear off quick. That was almost 5 years ago and the wheel is still going strong. I like the original look, altho my truck is a hotrod, it appears mostly stock.
I bought a new reproduction 40 Ford style wheel from southern Rods and parts. Looks very period correct on my Truck , 16 inch. My Truck is a hot rod as well , so keeping everything stock is not an issue , just like it to look period correct for the Trucks age.

I did the same thing to my stock steering wheel on my old '63 back in the late 70s/early 80s. It was still on it when I sold the truck in 1987.
I have a 53 3100. I wanted turn signals so I took a wheel and turn signal mech off a 57 truck. same size column as my 53. all fits nicely except the 57 wheel is dished 4" so i had to shorten the shaft and housing. I epoxy and painted the wheel $20. Wheel and turn mech $20. local welder column work $30. I'm using electric power steering but like the look of the big wheel.
