For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2015 Posts: 28 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2015 Posts: 28 | I have been collecting parts and working on my 1950 Chevy 3100 series. I bought a rebuilt front end off of another 1950 Chevy 3100 series truck where the owner was swapping to a mustang front end. The new Front end has 5 on 4.75 lug pattern and more modern type wheel cylinders. Can anyone tell me what this front end may have originally come off of? It had new bushings , kingpins, bearings, etc....and bolted right up to my frame. I thought all of the straight axle trucks were 6 lug.
Since I wanted the same bolt pattern on the rear as the front, I also have a rear end out of a 90's Blazer , limited slip, 60 inches wide, 5 on 4.75 bolt pattern. These have 2 3/4 inch axle tubes and I am struggling to find 2 3/4 inch diameter spring perches that are 1.75 inches wide for the stock rear springs. Does anyone have a source? Maybe something with the offset hole in the spring perch I have read about to make the rear axle look centered in the wheel well?
If not I can have them fabricated, I have watched you tube videos where they cut them out of square stock. I thought since this diameter axle tube rear end seems to be one of the popular choices someone in our forum may have a source. I cannot find one in any of the threads when I search S-10 rear end or 2 3/4 spring perch etc.... Everything I see online is for a 3 inch diameter axle tube by 1.75 inch wide spring
Thanks
Ray

All I had to do was put a bushing in the center pin hole in the perch to get my stock leaf spring pin to fit snugly. They might also have something that will work better that is not listed on the site- they are nice people to deal with, just give them a call. I used their perches, u-bolts, spring plates and shock mounts- all heavy duty nicely made stuff: Ruff Stuff Specialtiesps- to center your rear wheels in the fenders, just take your leafs and turn them front-to-back....put the front end of the leaf on the rear mount.

I would think that I should be able to use 2 inch wide leaf spring perches because the center pin holds the springs centered in place along with the torque of tightening everything up.
The truck I got the front end from was a street rod. The guy had put a 500 horsepower power SB 350 in the truck and couldn't stand to drive it, he said because the handling was so poor. And the brakes were so bad for the power to weight ratio with a stock front end . That's why he went with the Mustang front end.
So changing the hubs to 5 lug makes sense because he probably had a 5 on 4.75 lug pattern in a more modern rear end installed. I didn't know the car and truck hubs would be interchangeable.
I don't post often because every question has been covered 5 times it seems (which is great). I can usually find my answer just searching the forums, these 2 questions had me stumped though.
Thanks again. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2016 Posts: 916 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2016 Posts: 916 | I had no idea that the car and truck hubs were interchangeable either....and I have seen new manufactured car hubs for sale, but never truck hubs. Good info, Yakima- thanks!

I put them on top of a 14 bolt, (3 3/8 tube), they actually fit pretty well. Also, a quick search came up with 1.75 perches o the Quadratec sight sight. I believe early Jeeps had 1.75 springs. I wouldn’t worry too much about the tube diameter, your grinder and welder will forgive a lot. Just find what’s closest and go with it.
