My 3 on the tree shifter came loose recently and I discovered that years of wear had basically stripped out the threads from the little pot metal housing that bolts to the steering column and holds the upper shift pivot point in place.
I bought a repro one, but it's fitment was horrible. Screw holes way off. I began modifying it to work before finally stopping and realizing it would look horrible.
Did I get a bad repro part are do they all not fit well? If someone has found a repro that works well, please let me know the source. I've always gathered that most all of the major suppliers use the same parts manufacturers but I may be wrong.
I don't suppose there's a sound way to repair the original? Thanks in advance.
Repro parts suck. I have found that most (if not all) aren't anywhere near the quality of build and fit and finish of original pieces. Here is a short list of my repro parts that didn't fit well Headlight rings, windshield center bar, door latches (rebuild your stockers). I have yet to install a bunch more parts. Basically buy repro parts expecting to modify them to fit perfectly.
