Being that I like to have froze my bottom off yesterday morning to drive the truck — its time to do the heater thing (south Louisiana won’t use much, but this week is a real bear).

IS there a tutorial anywhere I can read on hooking up a deluxe heater? I’m a bit befuddled on the wiring?

Power wire going to switch from fuse block, but them there are 3 spades from dash fan switch?

Thanks

looks like there is a run to the heater duct box. Maybe for a thermostat?

The fan switch is wired to a "resistor assembly" mounted to the back side of duct. It's coils are inside probably for "cooling" by the airflow and no chance to burn you or something else. It has 3 contacts on the outside of duct. Fan switch has 4 contacts, one is hot feed. Factory Maintenance Manual Diagram shows how it's wired up or I can give a to-from list.
The "resistor assembly" is a typical speed control device remotely mounted away from switch.

Bartamos, I would love a to from list, if you don't mind.

Hopefully you can wire this with the resistor assembly loose just to test the operation of motor before installing the resistor way back behind. I don’t know if you have the original harness and it’s connectors that plug into the switch or the resistor. I don’t know if your wires will follow the colors on the wiring diagram I have. The colors are not critical, just how it’s wired, but I will give the colors on the diagram.

Starting at bottom contact of fan switch:
1. A wire from the fuse panel from a 10A fuse goes to bottom contact on fan switch. This is the hot feed. (BRN)
2. A wire from next fan switch contact goes to an outside contact on the resistor. (YEL)
3. A wire from next fan switch contact goes to center contact on resistor. (BLU)
4. A wire from next fan switch contact goes to the other outside contact on resistor. (ORN), then a wire from this resistor contact goes to fan motor (ORN)

There is a lamp on the 4 lever heater control assembly, it’s wire is connected in with the other panel lamps. (GRY)

The fan switch up, is off, then low, med, hi. If it does not operate like that, reverse the outside wires on the resistor assy. The diagram I have does not show which outside contact is which.

To clarify:
The "outside" contacts are vertical and the center contact is horizontal on the resistor assy.

Please let me know if it works. No hurry.

Modelman has found a harness that hooks it all up for $25 with all the connectors. That is the way to go. He will post the info I hope.

Yes that is the one he already found. I just did not want to steal his thunder.
