I have a 1958 261. It came to me with the two original 1/2" brass fittings that connect directly to the oil line ports. However, they are actually adapters that convert from 1/2" NPT male to something female. Can anyone tell me what that something is? It looks like it could be an AN (or JIC?) flare. It does not appear to be a compression fitting because the flare is going the wrong way for an olive to fit and seal. It would be nice to reuse them, especially since one of them already has two 1/8" NPT female ports for sensors, and they are very heavy brass. Thanks.

Google "1/2" inverted flare female" fitting. I'll bet that's what you have. The male fitting that works with it is the same kind you see on pre-made steel fuel lines- - - -a much bigger version of the same thing that's on a steel brake line.

Well. it does look a lot like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Weatherhead-...8-6&keywords=Inverted+Flare+Adapters

So, I think this makes it a 45 degree double flare fitting for 5/8" OD hard tube. Correct? And if so, do you know if fittings exist to convert from this to AN without buying a flare tool?

I found brass 1/2" NPT to AN fittings for my 261s (10 years and 20 years ago).

I'll look for contemporary sources and post info here.

Added/edited:

I bought from Earl's, but he might not still be around.

Totally incorrect. That takes a male inverted flare fitting that's already on a piece of 1/2" OD steel fuel line (two of 'em, actually) that can be bought in a variety of lengths at any local parts store. Buy a piece of hard line, cut and bend it to fit, and join it to your remote oil filter adapter with 1/2" compression fittings. Problem solved! What's the obsession with AN fittings? If you want flex lines for some reason, have your hydraulic shop put 1/2" inverted flare male fittings on a piece of single braid line. problem solved again!
