The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Frame - rubberized undercoating

I have my 55 frame all cleaned up, de-greased, and sanded down. However, I can not get it entirely all the way to bare/clean steel so I thought I would take some Rust treatment from Permatex and hit the rough spots. I thought I would then use some Mar-hyde (Bondo brand?)Rubberized undercoating as a final coat.

Does anyone have any advice for a beginner on this?

My only concern is that I have heard the rubberized undercoating is a bear to remove and I have even read posts from people saying that they feel it actaully increases the rust factor.

Any thoughts?

I used dupli-color truck bed coating on my 51 frame, firewall, radiator support, ect... and it works and looks great, its very forgiving on rough metal & covers alot of imperfections and its paintable, I used this stuff on my 86 C20 and other projects and it holds up good. but I think I will use undercoating on the backside of my fenders, under the cab, for protection from rocks being thrown up by the tires "I hope"

I am a bit nervous about the POR-15. Sounds like it can be be pretty hard on the lungs.

I tried the POR-20 high heat paint(and high price) on my 454 headers and followed the instructions to a tee AND IT STILL PEALED OFF as soon as I fired it up for the first time ! and I can still smell it in the garage every time I go in there,
