Was not really sure where to post this so since its a C60 here I am. I need to make a 3 hr trip to go get my 1966 C60. I have a short but very heavy built, deck above the wheels gooseneck. 16 ft surface with 4 ft dove tail. If I haul this truck on this trailer the rear wheels would be about a foot onto the dove tail. Again, its very heavy built and it must have been an equipment hauling trailer at one time. Does anyone see this as being an issue as far as the rear wheels being one foot onto the dove tail? Thanks for your input.

As long as you chain it down well, have a good heavy duty tow vehicle, and trailer brakes in good working condition, I don't see a problem. Are the trailer axles, springs and tires rated for the load you'll be carrying? Getting the load moving shouldn't be a problem- - - - -turning and stopping might be.

Trailer brakes work, Two 10K axles, bearings, spring hangers new etc..Duramax. Just more concerned with the rear wheels on the dove tail but again, its a heavy built trailer even on the dove tail.

as long as the trailer is not tail heavy with the rear truck wheels on the dovetail, should not be an issue. I have hauled cars with the back tires on my dovetail with no problems.

Just put your load binding chains under the middle of the truck...pull the rear axle forward and the front back crossing the chains in a X pattern and you should be fine!.

I had pretty much the same situation with this one.

https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/photo/112636930370126476644/6217244150762756002

I hauled it about 800 miles at highway speeds with a GMC 3500HD.

As was said above, make sure you have positive tongue weight, otherwise the ride will probably be more thrilling than you want.

Welcome to the club! Rear wheels just on the trailer, frame extending off the back ... just another haul!

By the way, have you read our trailering Tech Tip?

Or the Gooseneck versus tag-along trailer article?

Happy Hauling!

Funny story, I bought my '56 chevy 6400 about 7yrs ago but only had a 1/2ton pickup to go get it with. 300mile trip. So before I left I tried to figure out what it weighed to be sure I was safe. Everyone kept telling me "oh it won't weigh much more than 7-8k". It's a short wheelbase, 13' bed with hoist, etc.

So off I go with an 18ft bumper-pull car hauler trailer (heavy duty trailer with 7k axles, thankfully). Back tires of truck were barely on trailer deck, but it felt wayyyy heavier than what I expected. Put 50lbs of air pressure in my airbags and headed for home. Went over a mountain pass in Idaho about 50mph, (390hp hemi had plenty of power). I run 10ply tires on pickup, 14ply on my trailer, and I'm pretty cautious about things but still, the tail was wagging the dog at times.

Decided to pull into a weigh station out of curiosity. Whole rig weighed 17,800. Station guy chuckled and said that's one hell of a load for a half-ton. I'll never do that again! Apparently that trucked weighs over 10,000lbs. Frame has been reinforced and the bed/hoist is stout as hell.

I hauled a 57 2-ton for a fellow member, from central Mo. to central ILL.
It had a steel dump bed on it.
F-250, power stroke with the 6 speed manual.
The trailer is a dual-tandem axle gooseneck, rated for 20,000 lb.
The whole rig probably weighed over 20,000 lb.
With 3:73 gears, it seemed to pull best at about 75 mph.
Fuel mileage dropped down to about 13 mpg though.

I know it was a heavy load, but the truck and trailer handled it well.
